Waiver-Wire Pickups – Week 2

This is where you win your league: the waiver wire. Remember guys like Zac Stacy and Alshon Jeffery last year? Most likely waiver wire pickups. If you hit on the right player, you may just strike fantasy gold. I’ll try to help you sniff some guys out now.

Terrance West, RB, Browns
Now that we know Ben Tate is out 2-4 weeks, West will get his chance to shine for the next month or so. The Towson product managed 100 yards on just 16 carries (6.25 YPC) and looked like the feature back in a Browns offense that needs to lean on its running game. As a rookie, there’s a lot of unknown with West, which actually lends an advantage… he could break out and become this years Zac Stacy or Eddie Lacy. It’s a high-reward pickup from the scrap heap, so take a chance if you can.

Justin Forsett, RB, Ravens
Due to the whole Ray Rice fiasco, there is an abundance of carries now available in the Ravens offense. Bernard Pierce, the logical choice to take over as the feature back, only carried the ball 6 times for 14 yards on Sunday before being benched for fumbling issues. That’s -1 fantasy points if you’re keeping track at home. While Forsett has never been a sexy option, he’s got the hot hand now (11 carries for 70 yards and a touchdown on Sunday, against a top 5 Bengals defense no less) and is definitely worth a pickup in most leagues.

Kelvin Benjamin, WR, Panthers
As mentioned ad nauseam, the Panthers wide receiving corps is downright putrid this year. Aside from Benjamin (a rookie), the group consists of career 3rd receiver cast offs. Yet in a surprising week one victory, there was a lot to like about the first year pro from Florida State. Benjamin was targeted 8 times and hauled in 6 passes for 92 yards and a touchdown… all with Derek Anderson throwing him the football! Cam Newton will be back this week, thus inflating Benjamin’s value even more. While he will be inconsistent throughout the year, he’s a must own just for the upside.
