The Hail Mary, Week 8

The Hail Mary is a weekly article that will try to find you the best deep sleepers for that particular week. Use these guys if you’re desperate and need a “Hail Mary” for the week to win your league.

1. Brandon Gibson, WR, Dolphins – Gibson put together by far his best game of the season last week when he managed to find the end-zone twice. Those numbers shouldn’t be expected every week, but they were good to see nonetheless. The reason Gibson is on this list is because of his usage in the Dolphins offense. He has 29 catches this year which is 1 more than Mike Wallace and only 2 less than Brian Hartline. Ryan Tannehill is getting him the ball very often and good things happen with the ball in Gibson’s hands.

2. Ben Watson, TE, Saints – Last week’s TE Jordan Reed made me look very good, but Watson has the chance to play even better. Jimmy Graham is highly unlikely to play this week, and if he doesn’t, Watson takes his role in the Saints offense. New Orleans has had 2 weeks to prepare and get the journeyman tight end acclimated to the offense so I think a very big game is in store for Jimmy Graham’s backup.

3. Jeff Cumberland, TE, Jets – Quarterback Geno Smith and Cumberland have a great chemistry between them, and it really shows on the field. If you have Antonio Gates, Martellus Bennett, or another TE that is on a bye week, I highly suggest picking up Cumberland. While he has a lower ceiling this week than Watson, I also believe he has a higher floor.
