Wrapping up: Sunday night football
Patriots at Falcons – After a very tight first half, this game figured to have a photo-finish. It was indeed close at the end, but the game took a roundabout way of getting there. Both teams started the 3rd quarter slow, but the Pats eventually took a commanding 30-13 lead midway through the 4th quarter. But with the help of a lucky bounce on an onside kick and some technical difficulties from the replay booth (the system wasn’t working when the Patriots challenged a key play in the game) the Falcons were able to make this game interesting. Atlanta had a chance to tie the game with 40 seconds left but couldn’t convert a 4th and 6 play from inside the red-zone. Tony Gonzalez shredded the New England defense for 149 yards and 2 touchdowns and Julio Jones had some clutch catches down the stretch too. As for the Patriots, Kenbrell Thompkins turned in his second straight big fantasy game with 127 receiving yards and a touchdown. Running back LeGarrette Blount had 9 carries for 64 yards including a 47 yard TD run.
