The Hail Mary, Week 3

The Hail Mary is a weekly article that will try to find you the best deep sleepers for that particular week. Use these guys if you’re desperate and need a “Hail Mary” for the week to win your league. Without further ado…

1. Jason Snelling, RB, Falcons – I absolutely love the pickup of Snelling this week; if he is still available in your league, pick him up after you read this paragraph where I convince you. Obviously, Steven Jackson is not playing, and that leaves Jacquizz Rodgers and Snelling as the 2 backs to carry the load for the Falcons offense. Last week when Jackson went down with the injury, Snelling came in and gained 60 yards on 6 touches, including an 11 yard touchdown run. Comparatively, Rodgers garnered 45 yards on 15 touches with no TD’s. You tell me who was more productive. If I’m the head coach, I’m playing the running back that produces: Jason Snelling.

2. Harry Douglas, WR, Falcons – With Roddy White still dealing with a high ankle sprain, Douglas, by default, is the number 2 receiver for the Falcons. With the way Atlanta throws the ball, Douglas should see lots of targets this week. Combine that with the fact that Steven Jackson wont play anytime soon and that gives head coach Mike Smith even more of a reason to dial up the pass. Douglas has big play ability so he is a threat to reach the end-zone at any time. When you are looking this far down the waiver-wire, that is all you can ask for.

3. Charles Clay, TE, Dolphins – This guy had a solid showing in week one, but then just exploded on to the scene in week 2 with 16 fantasy points. Yet his name is Charles Clay and odds are that you still haven’t heard of him. If you’re in a pinch at the TE position this week, Clay is an interesting play because of his big play ability (61 yard reception last week) and versatility (rushed for a TD as well). I don’t expect a huge day from the Miami TE on Sunday, but if you’re looking at this position already, look no further than Clay.

*How did last weeks “Hail Mary” picks perform?

Brian Hartline – 5 receptions for 68 yards (6 fantasy points)

Marlon Brown – 4 receptions for 48 yards and 1 touchdown (10 fantasy points)

E.J. Manuel – 296 yards passing, 1 touchdown, 1 interception (14 fantasy points)
