Waiver Wire Pickups – Week 13
1. Beanie Wells – Wells has had a disappointing year so far to say the least. He was expected to carry the load in the Cardinals backfield but a turf toe injury landed him on injured reserve for much of the year. The new IR rule allowed Wells to come back last week, and he provided a much needed punch for a terrible Arizona rushing attack. His 48 yards and 2 touchdowns (16 fantasy points) helped propel the Cardinals to a win over the Rams, and also makes him very worthy of a pickup this week.
2. Bryce Brown – The Eagles rookie out of Kansas St. showed what he can do in a big way against the Panthers on Monday Night Football. His explosiveness proved it be a bright spot in an otherwise lackluster night for the Eagles. He rushed for 178 yards and 2 touchdowns on the night, and with LeSean Mccoy not anywhere close to returning from a concussion, the starting job should be Brown’s for the rest of the season. One thing to watch: Brown lost two fumbles on his otherwise spectacular day, so it would be wise to keep a close eye on his ball security this week. Either way, Bryce Brown is about to put together a fantastic finish to the season.
3. Brandon Weeden – If Weeden becomes a star in the NFL, this is the week it’s all going to start. The Raiders have given up 55, 38, and 34 points in their past 3 weeks, and Weeden gets a crack at their defense on Sunday. The Browns do not have many weapons at their disposal, but I believe that Weeden can make do with what he has, especially this week. He has cut down on his interceptions lately, going for more of the safe throws instead of the risky and inconsistent ones. One thing to watch the rest of the week: Weeden suffered a minor concussion against the Steelers in the Browns upset win last week, so it would be wise to monitor that situation. However, if you are in a bind at the quarterback position, Brandon Weeden is a great option this week.
